Golden Plains
Upcoming Events
Outdoor camping festival nestled in the Australian bushland. Hosted on a farmland affectionately dubbed the Meredith Supernatural Amphitheatre, the event takes place within the natural confines of the amphitheatre itself, where bands take the stage. Surrounding areas, including Spring Valley, North Pines, Mulwaverley, Tasmania, Kevin, and West Kevin, offer bush camping options, with most attendees opting to sleep in tents or vans. The festival's focal point, the amphitheatre, offers picturesque views of the typical Western District farmland, particularly enchanting during sunset. With only one stage, Golden Plains deliberately directs attention to the music, ensuring unobstructed views from all angles. Nestled amidst a grove of native Australian eucalyptus trees, the stage creates a serene backdrop for performances. Setting itself apart from other outdoor music festivals, Golden Plains embraces a non-commercial ethos. Eschewing commercial sponsorship and signage, the festival encourages attendees to bring their own alcohol (in plastic or cans, not glass), with exceptions made for the Pink Flamingo Bar, serving cocktails to those over 18. Prohibiting all fires, the festival encourages patrons to purchase food from on-site vendors, located to the left and right of the stage area. Over the years, Golden Plains has hosted a diverse array of artists, including Bon Iver, Nile Rodgers, Pavement, Cat Power, Moodymann, and many more. Notable acts from past editions include cult American act Pavement, Calexico, Dinosaur Jr, and Tame Impala, among others. Owned by the Nolan family, the festival made its debut in 2007, attracting a sold-out crowd of 7,500 attendees. It has since earned acclaim, winning 'Australia's Favorite Festival' in Faster Louder's Festival Awards multiple times. Despite challenges such as the cancellation of the 2021 festival due to the national lockdown, Golden Plains remains a cherished fixture in Australia's festival landscape.
