Eclectic music festival at the Meredith amphitheatre in early December. Meredith Music Festival originated in 1991 as a year-end gathering on the Nolan farm near Meredith, Victoria. Initially attended by approximately two hundred individuals, the event, amusingly dubbed the 'Meredith Music Festival,' featured performances by bands on the back of a truck. Attendees brought their own beverages, camped overnight in tents or vehicles, and enjoyed a communal BBQ prepared by local residents. The festival's popularity surged, drawing a crowd of 500 the following year and expanding to 5000 attendees within four years. Despite its growth, Meredith Music Festival maintains its BYO policy and continues to be held on the Nolan farm. Original organizers remain involved, embodying the festival's ethos of celebrating music, nature, and communal revelry. The event's location in Meredith, situated halfway between Geelong and Ballarat, offers a scenic backdrop against the foothills of the Brisbane Ranges. The festival's inception traces back to an exploration by local farmer Jack Nolan in 1989. While traversing previously unused farmland, Jack stumbled upon a natural amphitheater concealed by dense vegetation. Inspired by the serendipitous discovery, he envisioned a festival showcasing live music in this picturesque setting. Over the years, Meredith Music Festival has evolved into an independent cultural event, attracting music enthusiasts from across Australia. The festival's enduring charm lies in its rustic appeal, commitment to live music, and communal spirit—a testament to its humble beginnings and enduring legacy in regional Victoria.
