Upcoming Events

Her Bar opened in February 2022 and was an immediate success. Designed by HQ Group, the same owners as Arbory and Arbory Afloat, Her Bar is a bougie, polished yet trendy venue. Her bar is 5 stories high and has a range of offerings, including multiple restaurants, a rooftop bar and a room specifically for music and dancing - 'The Music Room'. The Music Room at Her Bar is hidden behind two very thick, sound-reducing doors. If you don't know it's there it could be easily walked past. Once inside, the room is pretty small. Behind the bar is 100s, possibly 1000s, of vinyl records stacked and lit up by a warm yellow light. The inbuilt DJ decks are designed for vinyl records, and behind the DJ is a wall of cabinets made up of electronics. This electronic wall looks like a 1970's computer with random flashing lights and endless buttons, knobs and gliders of musical sound manipulators. ‍ At the back of the room, are a row of deep couches that have an unusual amount of spring in them for how deep you sink into them. The Dance Floor is between the couches and the bar and DJ platform. The capacity is small and fills up quick. The Music at the Music Room at Her Bar is curated by Melbourne legend, Janette Pitruzzello a.k.a. DJ Jnett, a producer, radio host and DJ. The Music Room sees a range of venue takeovers by large Melbourne, national and international Record Labels and touring companies. ‍ The music varies a lot depending on what time and day you go. In the early afternoons, during the week, there is often an experimental, ambient DJ, then in the evening, is more upbeat house-ier tunes. The music parameters seem to tend around retro funk, disco and house. The crowd at the Music Room varies generally in age. In the afternoon, there's a mix of university students from the nearby creative RMIT and afterwork drinks. By the night, it is so mixed it is not useful to make a generalisation on demographics. Music is always free and is open several days a week.
