Public House

433-435 Church St, Richmond VIC 3121

Public House is one of the most popular venues in Melbourne. Richmond is different to other areas of Melbourne, in the sense that, most of the venues are pubs that turn into dance floors. The lack of a "nightclub" strip in Richmond, is made up for how busy it gets and other aspects of Nightlife Culture, that Richmond is the home of sport and gets lots of live music. Public house is by far the busiest place in Richmond, even with 4 levels and multiple spaces, the venue regularly gets a line up to 60-90mins long. Ground Level is fairly simple, with lots of seating area during the day, and a dance floor on Friday and Saturdays. Level 1 is lined with couches, another bar and an outside beer garden. Level 2, the one before the rooftop, has an open air design, 2 small bars, a few TV screens and heaps of standing space. This level is where they hold day parties and they consistently go off. The Rooftop is the most iconic part of the venue. With tiered levels, everyone can have an unobstructed view. The Public House Rooftop has a limited capacity so can be difficult to get a seat of an afternoon and evening, but given the opportunity is worth a good session. ‍ The view from the Public House Rooftop and Level below, in Richmond, is unparalleled. A 200 degree view of the iconic Melbourne CBD skyline, as well as, all the major sporting stadiums including Melbourne Cricket Ground, Rod Laver Arena and Aami Park. This view is at it's best in golden hour as the sun is setting in the distance and nighttime falls, particularly when a game is on at the MCG and the huge floodlights and roar from the stadium is easily visible and audible. Due to the proximity to the sporting complex, Richmond is the ideal pre and post-drinking spot all year round, with Public House being one of the most popular places. It is very common to see AFL scarfs on the Dance Floor of a Saturday Night. ‍ The music at Public House in Richmond is generally on the commercial side on Friday and Saturday Nights. However, during day parties, the music involves a lot more elements of house music, whilst still being somewhat commercial and recognisable to the general population. Public House will often hold day parties around public holidays and some summer sunday sessions. ‍ The crowd at Public House during the afternoon and midweek is generally a bit older and in careers, 28-40 year olds. Whereas, Saturday nights draw a younger crowd 18-26 year olds. Public House is known for having a higher income demographic, that have usually gone to a private school in Hawthorne, Kew, Toorak, Armidale and around those areas. ‍ The Crowd at a day party is a little bit more diverse and sits around the mid 20s age.
