Upcoming Events

Section 8, having started as a pop up stall in 2006, is now a fully fledged venue. Section 8 is one of the most acclaimed bars of Melbourne nightlife culture. ‍ Section 8 is a two shipping containers, one for the toilets and one for the bar, then a seating area made up of wooden crates and empty kegs. The parameter of the venue is an industrial style metal fence. The venue is almost completely covered in street art, murals, stickers and graffiti. Within the Tattersalls Lane right next to Section 8, is a basketball hoop and the upstairs balcony and smoker's area of Ferdydurke. ‍ Section 8 never has a day off and is always free. To fill up the countless hours of entertainment, Section 8 offers a very wide range of music styles, ranging from funk, rnb, jazz, soul, disco, house, techno, UK garage and hints of DnB. It is not uncommon for DJs to mix vinyl, play with a live instrument, a band and/or a vocalist. ‍ Section 8 can see a range of international artists put on a very intimate and energetic performance but also local heavyweights try something different to their usual big nightclub shows and local up-and-comers trying something different musically. ‍ The crowd at Section 8 is very mixed in terms of age. In the early evening, it functions as a trendy spot for after work drinks. As the night goes on, music lovers and avid partiers come in to boogie every night of the week. ‍ Almost like clockwork, Section 8 reaches capacity on a Friday and Saturday around 9/9:30pm. From Sunday to Thursday Section 8 also gets busy and can sometimes reach capacity. Due to the lack of sound insulation, the people in the line and just walking past can hear and enjoy the upbeat dance music being pumped from Section 8's speakers.
